“Bread Republic,” Hamra, Beirut, Lebanon

Once I found this European-influenced bakery, off Hamra Street near Radio Shack, I became addicted. I could only eat so much flat bread. I always felt there was a story in this vibrant, friendly woman, who introduced us to her store’s toasted old flatbread and strange spices.
