Nothing prepares you for India, even if you have been to Africa or the Andes. You think you have seen poverty, or the contrast of wealth and poverty. You may think you know something about religion or the power of presence. When I stepped into the street in Chennai that first day — I had gone there to learn about call centers and out-sourcing — I just was not ready for this guy. He is still in my brain a decade later. I think that’s good.
