The Hog Barn, Athens County Fair, Ohio, 2002

Phrases like “salt of the earth” come to mind when I look back on these pictures, though perhaps “heart attack” is more appropriate. Like much of the Midwest, each county in Ohio still has an annual county fair. The people there are so natural, so unassuming that they seem taken from a painting by Edward Hopper. These photos were taken in the hog barn, which had the most personality, for reasons that are obvious when you think about it.
