Chinese Market!

Asian Market

I took my freshman college students on a “market tour” a couple of weeks ago. Most of them had only seen American grocery stores, which are all the same, varying only in clockwise or counter-clockwise shopping pattern and whether or not they sell designer cheese. We visited the West Side Market in Cleveland’s Ohio City, my favorite among American traditional markets — it’s still about food, unlike the Philly and Pittsburgh market and some others. And we visited a Chinese market, where the freshest fish and vegetables are the rule (contrary to some of my students’ stereotypes).
