Lectio divina

2007-8-Chicago-MiamiBeach 135.

Just open anywhere – it’s your page:
“Give sentence with me, O God,”
from the Visitation of the Sick.
What could that mean?
In Latin: Judica me, Deus.
“Give sentence for me, Oh God,”
or “Judge me, Lord, and
distinguish my cause”
(from those other guys’)
That’s the 42nd Psalm.
And at the hospital today,
those cadences, that rhythm,
raised the pulse rate of a man
unable to speak or move
from 65 to 75, because
I was speaking for him.
The chairs are not empty.
